Personality: Because he has somebody else’s right temporal lobe, CyFi is not completely who he was before his accident. To quote the book: “…I’m seven-eighths me, and one-eighth him.” Most of Cy and what he does is himself, but in certain situations the one-eighth of Tyler from his temporal lobe takes over. Most notably, Tyler tends to have strong, compulsive urges to take any shiny objects that catch his eye (and this habit appears to be pathological rather than memory-based, so it could occur with or without memories). It takes a lot of effort for Cy to resist this, or even notice it at all when caught unawares—Tyler could steal something and Cy wouldn’t notice until he put a hand in his pocket to find a bracelet that hadn’t been there last time he checked.

Cy has a high IQ and the best academic scores in his school, and can get clever when he needs to be. Despite that, he speaks in a slang style picked up from old television programs as a sort of artistic statement—just because he can, rather than because he’s too dumb to be able to speak any other way—though when he’s startled or upset, or when Tyler is acting up, he may forget and drop the slang.

Cy himself is usually rather friendly and laid-back with people, but is very talkative and tends to repeat himself when he thinks he’s said something important or backtrack to provide definitions of words even when whoever he’s talking to may know the meanings already. He’s a good listener when he wants to be, though. He has his own personal integrity and honor code, and normally isn’t one for theft or other acts of dishonesty. (Lying is an exception, if he feels he needs to for survival, privacy, or other reasons.)
